Master Bedroom Suite

A six-storey Grade-I listed house in Mayfair, London with a distinguished history, this entire project was a challenging restoration. The client respected the property’s history and was keen to restore it to its former self. But he wanted his bedroom suite to be very modern so, Candy & Candy have created the perfect marriage of the past to some ultra-modern designs to create one seamless home. The vision for the master bedroom suite was a moody, masculine space which was completely self-contained.

The bedroom is reached via finger-print reader and a private leather-clad staircase leading to the contemporary bedroom with informal reception, complete with concealed kitchenette for midnight feasts, a bathroom and a study on the fourth, mezzanine floor. From here, a door leads out to the roof terrace.

Before the restoration began, the wooden beams that are now such a prominent feature of the room were above the third floor ceiling. So, a new roof was added and the ceiling taken out to achieve this dramatic double-height space. The beams are now an integral part of the design and are upholstered in hand-stitched leather and the bed is set amongst the roof joists to make it a chunky, masculine four-poster bed.

The décor for the en-suite study is similarly rich and dark. It houses a handsome, modern fireplace and statement lamp by Ryan McElhinney comprising hundreds of small toys joined together and then coated in gold.
